Volleyball

One of the most popular sports—with another coming up below!—in Santa Cruz County is volleyball. With a multitude of indoor facilities and outdoor opportunities on the many area beaches, volleyball is both a popular pastime and a highly-competitive sport.


There are many clubs in Santa Cruz County for adults. Santa Cruz Beach Volleyball Club, which is hosted on the Santa Cruz Main Beach, is one of the most popular ones, although there are many others to choose from. With available programs for all skill levels, this club does require a registration fee to join, however their focus is on both fun and noticeable improvement in your game!


Alternatively, the kids can also get in on all the fun by joining a volleyball club—but these clubs are for serious players only! For the girls, there’s Main Beach Volleyball Club, while boys can join its brother club, Kinnect Volleyball.

Surfing

As the other biggest sport in Santa Cruz County, surfing is many locals’ favorite activity. With miles of beautiful beaches in the area, many have tried their hand at tackling the waves. 


Surf clubs in the area offer lessons for all levels, at various different price points. Surf School Santa Cruz has two locations, one in Santa Cruz and one in Pleasure Point, and is a highly-rated option. 


There is also Black Surf Club, which provides lessons (at all levels) for Black, Indigenous, and surfers of color in Santa Cruz. This club also takes donations in order to continue to have free membership.


Alternatively, for experienced surfers, there are many clubs that offer storage and various membership perks. Traveler Surf Club in Pleasure Point is part retail space, part storage, and is very well-known.

Music

A cultural hub, Santa Cruz county is where you’ll find live music venues and active nightlife. But for those a little bit different and a little bit quirky, there are a few clubs you may enjoy.


The Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz is an all-ages, all-walks-of-life club for those interested in the instrument. Whether you’re a master or a beginner, all are welcome. This club hosts events, primarily in Santa Cruz and Capitola, and many members give lessons.

Games and Miscellaneous

While there are still a multitude of other clubs within Santa Cruz County, there are a few that stand out. 


The Santa Cruz Astronomy Club hosts various events and meets monthly. Quite secretive, membership to this club is for beginner, intermediate, and advanced astronomers, and provides lessons, lectures, and seminars. 


Stitchers By The Sea is the Santa Cruz branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America. They meet monthly in Santa Cruz to showcase, learn, and discuss embroidery techniques.


And for the sporty skaters, the Santa Cruz Roller Derby (with its youth equivalent, Santa Cruz Derby Groms) is composed of different teams at different skill levels. This non-profit organization, led by the A Team, the Boardwalk Bombshells, is part of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association and competes regularly.
