Forest view at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park near Zayante, California

Tranquil mountain living at its finest! Zayante is a census-designated place located eight minutes north of Felton, in the San Lorenzo Valley area. This beautiful community is known for its quiet, winding streets surrounded by giant redwood trees and its peaceful atmosphere.

A hidden gem of Santa Cruz County, Zayante is not a large community by any means, but its gorgeous location offers residents privacy and exclusivity away from the lights and sounds of the big cities.

Read on to find out more on why we think Zayante is such a great community to live in!

Escape From It All

The community of Zayante is located right on Zayante Creek, which runs from the area of Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve, all the way down to Felton, where it merges with the San Lorenzo River. As of 2020, Zayante has a population of roughly 730.

It is surrounded by the communities of Lompico, located north of Zayante, and Olympia, Mission Springs, Felton, and Scotts Valley, all located to the south.

Forget loud noises from highways and blinding city lights. This small community is quiet and peaceful with one main road—East Zayante Road—that connects the twisting, residential streets together.

Hello Nature

One of the most attractive features of Zayante is its natural beauty. This community is tucked into thick forest, and it is not uncommon for properties to be partially or completely hidden away from street view.

Many homes are also designed in quaint cottage or cabin styles, which really adds to the atmosphere of the area. Historic and full of character, these homes are much different from what you would find in downtown Santa Cruz, for example!

Zayante’s picturesque look is attributed to its thick redwood forest, which provides a unique ambiance to the area. It is also located near quite a few parks, including Quail Hollow Ranch County Park, which is known for its wildlife watching opportunities and hiking and equestrian trails. Also close by is Loch Lomond Recreation Area and Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, located in Lompico and Felton respectively.

Just A Drive Away

Although Zayante is quite secluded, which outdoor enthusiasts will love, it is also not too far away from larger communities. There are relatively few shops within Zayante, with the largest being Zayante Creek Market & Deli: a historic shop and market located right at the base of the community.

Mount Herman, a community located roughly a 7-minute drive south, offers residents more choice when it comes to shops. It has a grocery store, bank, drug store, and more. Felton and Scotts Creek, both just a short drive away as well, are hosts to large chain stores, delicious restaurants, community parks, and entertainment.

And, of course, downtown Santa Cruz is but a 20-25 minute drive south. In Zayante, it’s easy to take a day trip to the city and to the beach, but return to the comforts of forest living by the evening.

Appealing to nature-lovers and those who want to get away from fast-paced city life, Zayante is the perfect place to settle down. In a cozy, rustic setting surrounded by trees that seemingly touch the sky, you can make your move to Zayante with just one click.
