Boulder Creek is the classic small, mountain community in a lot of ways.

As Highway 9 winds its way down its main strip, Central Avenue, you can’t help but be in awe of the towering trees that shade the roadway. The businesses that line this main street have managed to retain a great deal of the original charm of the community’s early 20th century founding.

As the “gateway to Big Basin Redwoods State Park”, Boulder Creek is the home base to many adventures into the backcountry. Big Basin Redwoods State Park isn’t just one of Northern California’s largest state parks, it’s also its oldest.

The well established park has provided a welcome escape for residents of many of the larger nearby cities, such as Santa Cruz, San Jose and even San Francisco. It features a vast network of trails, leading willing hikers and mountain bikers through wonderful wooded trails and up to unbelievable peak view points.

The Boulder Creek Real Estate Market

Boulder Creek real estate is perfectly positioned just 25 minutes outside of Santa Cruz, CA and less than an hour’s drive from San Jose.

This ideal position has made Boulder Creek a popular destination as a commuter community. Many Boulder Creek residents make a daily trip into those major communities before retreating back to their mountain homes in the evening.

This is part of what makes the small community so appealing. It’s position away from those major centers has helped to keep home prices more manageable; the median price of a home in Boulder Creek is $603,000. And its pristine mountain setting is just icing on the cake.

The Boulder Creek Community

The Boulder Creek community was founded in the early 20th century as a home base for a burgeoning forestry industry. Today, it’s well-known as the “gateway to Big Basin Redwoods State Park”. While Highway 9 meanders through town and continues north to San Jose, the Big Basin Highway branches off the west providing great access to the wilds of the San Lorenzo mountains.

The small community has established itself as an essential pit stop on the way to the backcountry. It’s a popular home base for many hikers, backpackers and mountain bikers. The locals are friendly and the small businesses along the main strip are charming and inviting.

The downtown area ably provides all the essentials and so much more. Mac’s 100 Year Old Place is a popular stopover, offering numerous gift and “relics of a bygone era". The building itself is a postcard from 100 years ago!

Among the great restaurants and pub’s along the main strip is Boulder Creek Pizza and Pub, featuring house-made pizzas with only the freshest ingredients.

Among the biggest highlights of the Boulder Creek community is without a doubt the Boulder Creek Golf & Country Club. Established back in 1961 as a 9-hole course designed by notable golf course designer Jack Fleming, the course has since grown to a full 18 holes.

The result is a stunning and unique golf experience among the towering redwoods and pristine mountain air. The course is also surrounded by a charming upscale community. Homes in this desirable community don’t come up often though.
