It’s the start of a new year. From our family to yours, we wish you a very happy 2023!

The last few months seemed like they flew by; one moment it was the beginning of autumn, and the next moment we were counting down to welcome 2023 with fireworks. Before you know it, the first few months of the new year will fly by, and it’ll be the end of spring. That’s why now is the best time to make some resolutions for your Santa Cruz area home.

Here’s our list of three simple and easy New Year’s resolutions for your home, that everyone can keep!

Take The Time To Organize

One of the most important things you should do this year… is also the one that many people love to put off. Although this might be a quick and simple task for some, others might find this rather daunting.

The end of the year tends to be a time where a lot of clutter piles up. It’s the season of gift-giving, which means we now have to make room for new things. This, combined with the disorganized spaces we already have, often results in an overwhelming mess.

The early months are the best time to sort through your things and tidy up. This includes filing away documents from last year, getting rid of things you don’t need, and making room for new things. It’s important to remember that you don’t need to do everything all at once! If this is an unappealing task, you can start small with one room first (such as an office), and then slowly make your way around your home.

Start Afresh With New Upgrades

Have you been putting off replacing something in your home? Or, maybe you just haven’t found the time to install that new gadget. Well, the best time is now!

Finding the time to take care of home upgrades can be difficult, but plan ahead and block off a weekend (or two!) to tackle this—it’ll be worth your while! These upgrades can be as simple as replacing old light bulbs with energy efficient ones, or completely replacing old appliances or furniture. If you have things that need to be repaired, then checking this off as soon as possible will be beneficial for you, as putting this off for a long period of time might make the problem much worse… and much more expensive.

For the techy ones, the first weeks of January are often slow as people reset, so right now might be the best time to play with and install new devices (that you might have received as a gift for the holidays).

Plan Ahead

We never know what the new year will bring—but we can plan for it. Take the time to plan for 2023 now… so that you won’t end up with regrets at the end of the year!

What does planning ahead look like? It could be a variety of things, ranging from organizing your ideas for renovation projects to implementing a cleaning schedule. Make note of what you want to accomplish and set goals for yourself. For many, an agenda or planner might be handy, but a checklist pinned to your fridge might work better for you.

This is also the time to plan for emergencies. Take note of what things you need or have low stock of: matches, batteries, candles, electrical or duct tape, cleaning supplies and hand sanitizer, non-perishable food items, a first aid kit, and more.

Planning for emergencies also means having tools handy for unforeseen repairs. But it’s a good idea to take a good look in and around your home to see if anything needs replacing or needs to be fixed.

Sound easy? We hope so! Home ownership is a big responsibility, but these three tips can help make the year ahead a little easier.
