The first weekend of September is just around the corner and with it comes Labor Day, the last-chance long weekend to squeeze in some more summer fun before it’s back to daily routines and school. If you’re still looking for something fun to do with the family, then check out these awesome Santa Cruz County events below!

1. Wings Over Watsonville Fly-In Air Show

Check out Wings Over Watsonville to see all of your favorite planes up close and personal. Check out war birds, historic planes, modern law enforcement helicopters, and much more. The proud pilots of these birds will be on hand to answer any and all of your questions about the mechanics of flight, the history of their aircrafts, and what it’s like to be a pilot. There will also be a kids zone play area for kids and plenty of food trucks on hand to cater to your wildest cravings. The air show kicks-off on Friday night with a showing up Disney & Pixar’s, Up, while the entire show gets under way on Saturday. This annual event is fun for the whole family and a great way to wrap-up the summer, just remember to bring your sunscreen!

2. 59th Annual Begonia Festival

It’s that time of the year again! This free family-event is fun for the whole family and is about more than just beautiful flowers. Throw you artistic skills to work in the sand sculpture competition, try your luck at the Fishing Derby, paddle your way to victory in the rowing competition, and check out the decked-out boats in the Nautical Parade. This weekend has something in store for all ages!

3. Grizzly Bear Festival

Join the Rancho Del Oso Nature and History Center for a special day of family-friendly activities. Learn about the natural history of the California Grizzly Bear. There will be face painting, crafts, and plenty of fun games and activities for the little ones. The center is located in Big Basin Redwoods State Park and is close to a number of trails for everyone from avid hikers to casual walkers. For even more fun, make this a weekend trip by staying in a nearby campground and spending the last few days of the summer tucked under the cozy canopy of this magnificent forest.
