The Top 5 Santa Cruz Kitchen Design Trends For Fall

As we make our way through September, many are anticipating the changing of the season. Autumn means that numerous events and holidays are fast approaching in the Santa Cruz area, and sometimes these things make us long for a little bit of a change. A fresh coat of paint or a new centerpiece can really transform a space—especially for one as frequently used as the kitchen

For those looking to switch things up, here are the top 5 kitchen design trends that we love the most for the upcoming fall season.

Go Green

The color of 2022 is most definitely green. From gathering attention on the runway to a pop of color in your kitchen backsplash, green has been everywhere this year—and we think it’s going to stick around for a while.

You can put some life back into your kitchen by giving it a colorful makeover. Of course, you don’t always have to go bold as green cabinetry or entirely green walls, but little pops of color add a lot of interest. Incorporating colors, such as green, into your space can be as easy as a new bowl, vase, or small appliance, and they’ll bring out the other colors in your home, too.

Unique Accent Pieces

Speaking of small ways to integrate color, unique and quirky accent pieces are certainly a trend for fall. Whether or not they are fall-themed is up to you, but we’re seeing a breakaway from cookie-cutter kitchens, and interesting accent pieces contribute to this. Modern vases, quirky jars, and other statement pieces are what everyone’s talking about right now, and are a fun and exciting way to incorporate textures, colors, and shapes into your space.

A Vintage Touch

In general, buying vintage and thrifting is a huge trend at the moment—and not just in Santa Cruz Perhaps part of the appeal is the thrill of finding something truly unique.

This fall, we’re seeing vintage enter the kitchen, and this can be done in a multitude of ways: a repurposed countertop, antique appliances, thrifted furniture, handed-down textiles… the list goes on. While the modern, sleek kitchen is still very popular, more rustic or cottage-like alternative styles are increasing in popularity. Even retro or vintage kitchen styles in their entirety are becoming increasingly prevalent.

Wood And Natural Materials

When we talk about more rustic styles, this usually means using wood or other natural materials in one’s design. This year, we’ve seen a resurgence in integrating natural materials into home decor, falling in line with Santa Cruz County’s increased focus on sustainability.

This gorgeous fall trend is one that can fit in with any style or taste. More contemporary kitchen designs might use stone or marble as a prime feature of the space, either in the flooring, the countertops, or a backsplash. A more traditional or country style may incorporate woven furniture, wood countertops, or cabinetry with natural wood features—a popular style in many Santa Cruz homes

(Secret) Storage

Storage, in a kitchen, is everything. In fall 2022, we’re seeing new and inventive ways to store our most important items. Floating shelves are just one example. Pantries, additional shelving, hanging wall storage, and kitchen expansions are becoming more popular in kitchen design.

Additionally, when storage space in your home is limited, rolling or moving storage solutions, such as carts, are also super trendy. Oftentimes these are mixed-use and can hold items from other rooms or spaces.
