Santa Cruz has the Third-Best Well-Being Index in the Country

Santa Cruz has been ranked as having the third-best well-being index in the country This year’s rankings, by Gallup-Healthways, examined 189 communities across the country and ranked them based on the five elements of well-being, purpose, social, financial, community, and physical. While this is no surprise to people who live and work here, getting ranked as the third-best for well-being in the country is a great way to encourage new residents moving to Santa Cruz as well as giving current residents living in Santa Cruz something to be proud of.

Why Was Santa Cruz Ranked So Highly?

It’s no wonder that Santa Cruz was ranked so highly in this research since Santa Cruz experiences gorgeous weather and is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and wonderful ocean scenery. A general focus on healthy, active lifestyles also encourages residents to take care of themselves while getting out of the house and enjoying life. These factors most likely heavily influenced answers.

With the ocean in our backyard and some of the best colleges within close proximity, it’s no wonder that Santa Cruz homeowners feel satisfied and proud of their community. In addition to beautiful surroundings, we also have access to quality healthcare and premium amenities that improve quality of life and add to the well-being of our residents.

How Was The Data For The Gallup Healthways Wellbeing Index Collected?

Throughout 2015 and 2016, researchers conducted over 350,000 phone interviews with Americans across the country. Asking questions that helped uncover how they truly felt about their geographical area. Questions would reveal how much people enjoyed their work, how motivated they were to achieve goals, if they felt love and support in their life, and more. Other questions uncovered how individuals felt about having the tools and means to manage financial stress and increase financial security.

Communities that ranked high reported liking where they lived, feeling safe, and having pride in the community, giving them an edge over communities where people did not feel this way. Physical health was also considered, as individuals were asked about their health and energy levels on a daily basis.
