Are you are a wine connoisseur? Or perhaps you just want to try some great local wines to see what you like, before purchasing an entire bottle. Well then mark November 16, 2014 down in your calendar. That's right, The Downtown Santa Cruz Wine Walk is back. This unique wine tasting event pairs delicious local Santa Cruz Mountain wineries with some of your favorite downtown shops. Enjoy casually strolling from store to store, where you browse the store's merchandise, while also being treated to tastings from some Santa Cruz's best wineries.
This is the best pairing since wine & cheese. This event is also a great way to get introduced to some fantastic locally produced wines, without having to commit to a full glass or bottle.
The Downtown Santa Cruz Wine Walk - Tips
To try and make your experience as enjoyable as possible, we have compiled a few tips for attending the Downtown Santa Cruz Wine Walk.
Wear Comfortable Shoes
As the event involves walking, it is smart to wear a pair of shoes that won't cause you pain. Sure, those super high heels may be beautiful, but if they are going to cause you a lot of pain, we suggest ditching them for a more sensible option. Remember, there is only one kind of "Wine" people want to experience at this event.
By planning ahead you can greatly enhance your overall experience. First, it is important to know exactly how you will be getting to and from the event. Even if you don't plan on consuming the wine, it may still a good idea to plan a ride, just in case you end up changing your mind. Also, if you plan on going out after, make a dinner reservation. The event ends at 6:00pm, which means you will likely be competing against many other attendees for a spot in the most popular restaurants.
If you are a wine expert already, great! However, just remember that no one is expecting you to be. This is a fun event for everyone to enjoy. When tasting, keep in mind that there are many different opinions on what the best method is. We suggest that if you are a beginner, or even if you're not, ask the representative how they would suggest tasting their wine. They are, after all, the experts. They can also guide you through some of the subtleties of their wine, that you may have missed on your own. They put a lot of love and attention into creating their wine, by engaging and asking questions, you show them respect.
So, you have decided that you like the wine that you have just tried and are interested in purchasing it. However, its still early and you don't want to commit until you have had a chance to sample a bit more. Or perhaps you are set on purchasing it now, but your hands are already full from previous stops. Ask where you can purchase their wine (and write down). You can also ask if they have a lay away or transportation option. They may not, but there is no harm in asking. Finally, be sure to ask for their business card.
Tickets for the event can be purchased online, up until the day of. However, to ensure you don't miss out on all the fun, we advise purchasing your tickets as soon as possible.
